The Galaxy Note series is officially dead;S Ultra is the new note
During MWC 2022, Samsung confirmed something that was already expected: the Galaxy Note line is indeed dead. The legendary smartphone group, made famous by the S-Pen integration, didn't get a new device last year. With the Galaxy S22 Ultra featuring the S Pen slot, we all knew it could be the long-awaited replacement. Now, the official lineup that pushed the "Big Shows" has been finalized and is being replaced by the Galaxy S lineup.
The information was provided by Roh Tae-moon, Head of Samsung's Mobile Division. According to the executive, the Galaxy Note will leave the scene to make way for the Ultra series, which is part of the Galaxy S family. "The Galaxy Note will be released as 'Ultra' from now on," he said.
The first Note smartphones brought larger screens, hardware improvements, and S Pen integration. However, in recent years, we've seen the S Pen remain the only difference. Now that Samsung has two ranges of foldable smartphones, we can see that they are focusing on just one range of regular smartphones. Next, we will focus on foldable devices. Instead of launching two devices that are out there just because of the S Pen, I've made the Galaxy S Ultra the new Galaxy Note.
The Galaxy S22 Ultra has a highly noticeable design with flat aluminum frames and squared-off edges. Coincidentally or not, the Galaxy S22 Ultra is the most luxurious smartphone in the lineup just like the older Note smartphones. It has a massive Quad HD+ display with 120Hz refresh rate and LTPO 2.0 screen. The device also packs a more powerful 5,000mAh battery with 45W fast charging.
The end of an era that began with the Galaxy Note
The first Galaxy Note was introduced in 2011. It drew attention due to its built-in stylus and a large screen at that time - 5.3 inches. Companies like Apple laughed in Samsung's face saying one wanted a device with such a big screen. However, current times suggest otherwise. The device pioneered the concept of “phablets,” devices that were not as large as tablets, but much larger than the traditional 4- to 4.5-inch smartphones of the time.
The last Galaxy Note was the Galaxy Note 20 which arrived in two versions in 2020. The device brought many similarities with the Galaxy S20 series and many considered its launch a waste of time.
The warrant has been responsible for many good things in the industry, as well as some bad things. The Note 7 for example, has had a hell of a problem with devices that self-burn all over the place. Samsung made the biggest recall in all of the smartphone industry and decided to completely get rid of the smartphone. The company later revealed that the problem was due to faulty batteries. Arguably, the specter of the Galaxy Note 7 is the reason for Samsung's reluctance to develop its own charging technology.
