Many city dwellers suffer from what is known as retaliatory sleep procrastination, which causes people to refuse to sleep early and want to organize their night time as they wish as compensation for their inability to do so during the day. It is a behavior that is likely to be a form of psychological compensation to combat the stress of the day.

Although vindictive sleep procrastination gives the illusion of "life control", the truth is that reducing sleep time can lead to a series of side effects, such as reduced decision-making and cognitive decline, and provide no positive effect.

To solve the dilemma of retaliatory sleep procrastination, it is recommended to organize work and rest time, avoid using electronic devices before bed, or allocate time before bed for activities that help relax the nerves, such as reading, meditation and stretching.
