German Defense Minister intends to improve the personal equipment of soldiers
Berlin - (dpa) - German Defense Minister Christine Lambrecht intends to improve the personal equipment in particular of German army soldiers through additional funds planned to be pumped into the army.
"Our female soldiers and soldiers do their work with impressive commitment and the highest level of professionalism - they guarantee our freedom - so they deserve the best equipment," Lambrecht told German weekly Bild am Sonntag in its Sunday edition.
The German minister added that she had instructed Inspector General Eberhard Zorn “to give priority to improving the personal equipment of the troops as quickly as possible. This is currently at the top of my agenda.”
It is noteworthy that German Chancellor Olaf Scholz announced a huge armament program for the German army against the backdrop of the Ukrainian crisis, and it is planned to provide 100 billion euros through a special fund to invest in arming the forces.
The head of the German Reserve Soldiers Association, Patrick Zinsburg, told the same German newspaper, "There are no modern means of communication in sufficient numbers," and pointed out that the Navy needs patrol boats and large ships, and there is also a need for personnel for that. Zinsburg also called for an increase in the number of German soldiers from about 184,000 currently to "more than 200,000."
