Due to a fire in a data center, a major internet outage in Tehran and Karaj
In a report, the ISNA news agency described the outage as "extensive," adding that as a result, citizens' access to the Internet via mobile and fixed lines, including the operators of "Hamra Awal" and "Shatel", were cut off. And "Mobin Net" for mobile phones.
On the other hand, Mehdi Salem, head of public relations at the Iranian Ministry of Communications, tweeted that the outage was "minor", and said that the reason was "a fault in the electrical current that led to a fire in the communications infrastructure center".
In an interview with Iran's IRNA news agency, Salem described the location of the data center as being on Kurdistan Street in Tehran, adding that this "limited glitch in Tehran and Karaj" was fixed after half an hour, and now there is no problem with access to "fixed internet". ".
This official at the Ministry of Communications said, without mentioning the lifting of the problem of mobile Internet: "It may be necessary for subscribers of the mobile network to turn off their mobile phones and turn them on to access the service again."
However, a number of social network users reported that the Internet was constantly disrupted, and even interrupted by some operators in the cities of Karaj and Tehran.
It is worth noting that in recent years, and especially in recent months, Iranian citizens have been complaining about slowdowns and disruptions in the Internet.
This comes at a time when many citizens are concerned about the passage of the so-called "Internet Restriction" plan in Parliament.
The draft plan, which was first presented in 2018, allows the government and armed forces to control the infrastructure and communications of Iran's Internet with the World Wide Web.
In a statement issued in early March, UN human rights experts called on the Iranian regime to shelve its final steps to adopt a new plan for internet censorship that would cut Iran off from the international internet community.
In September, during a report for the year 2021, Freedom House ranked the Internet Freedom Index in the world, with the rank (100) being the best case.
Iran ranks 16 out of 100 in this report. This ranks Iran as one of the worst countries with the least internet freedom, below countries like Belarus, Uzbekistan, and Pakistan.
