In 2020, Apple announced CarKey, a service that lets you use your iPhone or Apple Watch to unlock your car using NFC and Ultra Wide Band (UWB) technology. CarKey stores the digital car key locally on the Wallet app, which is included by default on the iPhone. Initially, this service was limited to BMW cars. CarKey coming soon to Hyundai cars
According to information obtained by Mark Gorman, a famous journalist at Bloomberg, CarKey could soon arrive on cars from brands other than BMW.
